I am a software engineer.
I completed my adventure with General Assembly Software Engineer Immersive class in December of 2021.
When I was a young high-schooler I knew I wanted to dedicate myself to my career and become the best there was in my field. At the time, I had little experience of the real world and the opportunities out there, so I chose a career centered around my hobbies, which at the time, was animal health. As I have continued to grow, learn and become more experienced I find I want to seek out new opportunities to continue to excel.
As a problem-solver I find I am adept to peoples concerns, and questions. I soak them in while filled with this drive to fix and improve things. This played in well into my field, assisting clients in finding appropriate animal care and assistance.
Then in my years of work experience, I have learned how to coordinate with multiple departments. While I was in a large specialty hospital, one of my skills I honed was inter-department coordination and communication. Making sure that the multiple departments were able to coordinate patient care appropriately and in a timely manner.
Another skill I have developed, is being able to maintain a clear focus while coordinating responsibilities within a time sensitive period.
Coordinating departments is a breeze, considering when an animal goes into cardiac arrest or has a seizure suddenly under your care. Cultivating the knowledge know-how and the coordination to command a team takes a fine finesse and careful balance within a short amount of time.
It would be within all of 5 minutes, but in those 5 minutes you would have to coordinated someone intubating a patient, someone else getting an IV catheter in for IV access, someone is administering CPR, while someone is writing down drugs that are now starting to be administered. Many times, it is only 2-3 people doing the job of 5-6, but as all technicians know, if you don't keep your cool during this storm, it could cost a life.
After 15 years in the veterinary field I find I want to do more. I want to grow, develop, solve more problems, and just develop my skills more.
I have always been considered a detail-orientated problem-solver with the curiosity and patience to figure out the technology programs that made most of my veterinary colleagues scratch their heads and resort to manual applications. So, I decided to turn my "knack" for technology and my interest in coding into a career pivot, and enroll in General Assembly to do Software Engineering in an immersive online Full Stack program. I have been excelling at learning each of the technologies and I am eager to apply my knowledge in a collaborative environment where my project management and communication skills can be put to good use advancing technology solutions.
And while it sometimes feels as if I am starting all over, struggling from the bottom rung again, there is something to be said for the many years of work experience I already have under my belt.
The team work, coordination of the team members, organization, being a self starter, prioritization, and other essential skills one naturally develops while apart of the working community, have definitely contribute to my own personal development through the years.
I have found my drive and passion to be the best in my field and welcome the opportunity to explore how my work ethic, dedication and focus can be of service to you and your team.
